On June 21, 2023, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office ,
Velasco Garcia had been sitting on the cliff overlooking the ocean, when he got up to leave, he lost his footing, slipped backward and fell 200 feet to the cliffs below, Tony Cipolla, sheriff's spokesman, said the incident occurred around 6 p.m.
California Fire, Harbor Patrol and Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene to begin a rescue operation. When they arrived Velasco Garcia had no pulse, was not breathing and was pronounced dead at the scene according to Cipolla.
Family and friends have come together to raise money for the loved ones of the deceased gentleman. A GoFundMe campaign has be set up by Lauren Persall of
Nipomo, she writes “As many of you know, the world lost a great man, his family
truly needs us to wrap our arms around them and bring support, financially, emotionally and in faith”. He leaves behind his spouse Emily Villegas and children Santos and Saryah.
